Explaining Clauses…
We often get asked about specific clauses in Management Systems, so we have decided to go over one in each newsletter edition. If you want to know more about a specific clause, then send us an email and we will include this in our next edition.
ISO 9001 – CLAUSE 6 – PLANNING
This clause introduces planning for the quality management system.
You should review the risks and opportunities identified by your organisation through clause 4 Context of the Organisation and put plans in place to reduce or eliminate any risks. You should also develop and pursue opportunities to address organisational or customer needs.
The organisation also needs to plan for objectives, in line with your Quality Policy which are SMART:
SPECIFIC, MEASUREABLE, ACHIEVABLE, RELEVANT, TIMEBOUND
The organisation should plan what will be done, what resources are required, who will be responsible, when it will be complete and how results will be evaluated.
Planning of changes is also an important aspect of your quality management system, and you should ensure as an organisation, any changes which may effect the quality management system are carried out in a planned manner using a risk based approach
Legislation Updates
Here are a few examples of recent legislation that has come into force which we have included in some of our client legal registers and should be considered.
- The Energy Act 2023 (Commencement No. 1) (Amendment) Regulations 2024 United Kingdom: Section 303 and part of section 304, relating to decommissioning of civil nuclear sites, were scheduled to come into force on 31st January 2024. This amendment cancels the commencement date, without providing a new date when the two sections should come into force.
- The Biodiversity Gain Site Register (Financial Penalties and Fees) Regulations 2024 England & Wales: The Biodiversity Gain Site Register Regulations 2024 requires Natural England to establish a public register of biodiversity gain sites. The Biodiversity Gain Site Register (Financial Penalties and Fees) Regulations 2024 sets out the fees and fines related to applications to register land on the biodiversity gain site register.
- The Environment Act 2021 (Commencement No. 8 and Transitional Provisions) Regulations 2024 United Kingdom/England: From 12th February 2024, applications for planning permission in England must be accompanied by a biodiversity gain plan.
- The Building Safety Act 2022 (Commencement No. 6) Regulations 2024 United Kingdom: It is now a legal requirement for the accountable person for a higher-risk building to display assessment certificates and manage building safety risks under The Higher-Risk Buildings (Management of Safety Risks etc) (England) Regulations 2023.
- The Packaging Waste (Data Reporting) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2024
